Ljubljana, June 2026 · Strategic partnership

A partnership for a more connected and demographically resilient Slovenia.
The Institute for Demographic Future (IDF) and Ona-On, a Slovenian platform dedicated to serious introductions and the formation of partner relationships, have established a strategic partnership focused on demographic awareness, social connectedness and the importance of high-quality interpersonal relationships for Slovenia’s future development.
The partnership marks an important step in connecting research, social insight and practical experience in the field of demographic change. Stable partnerships, family connectedness, intergenerational cooperation and social inclusion are among the foundations of a society’s long-term demographic resilience.
Demographic futures are shaped not only by indicators, but also by the quality of relationships, trust, security and the wider social conditions in which people make major life decisions.
Demography is about people, relationships and the conditions that shape life choices.
Slovenia is facing long-term demographic change, including low fertility, population ageing, shifts in household structures, the out-migration of young people from certain areas and growing pressure on local communities and public systems.
Understanding these developments requires more than a statistical reading. Demographic trends reflect people’s life choices, the quality of interpersonal relationships, a sense of security, housing and employment opportunities, social support and the broader cultural patterns that influence partnership and family formation.
This is why cooperation between a research institution and an organisation with practical experience in connecting people is both meaningful and socially relevant. It brings together data, professional interpretation and direct insight into contemporary relationships.
Connecting research knowledge with experience from social practice.
The Institute for Demographic Future develops research content, analyses, programmes and public discussions that help explain the country’s long-term demographic challenges. Its work is grounded in data, comparative insight, institutional dialogue and the search for constructive solutions for Slovenia’s future.
Ona-On works in the field of introductions, partner relationships and social connection. Its experience offers a valuable perspective on how relationships are formed in contemporary society, what obstacles people encounter when looking for partnership and why social connectedness matters for quality of life.
The partnership is therefore more than a formal cooperation. It creates a bridge between demographic research and the lived reality of people, between professional analysis and questions that affect the everyday decisions of individuals, couples, families and communities.
The cooperation will focus on awareness, research and public dialogue.
The partners will develop the cooperation gradually, with a focus on content that can contribute to a more mature and responsible understanding of demographic issues. Particular attention will be given to the importance of high-quality relationships, family stability, social inclusion and intergenerational connectedness.
Demographic resilience also depends on trust, closeness and social connection.
Public debates often approach demography through numbers: fertility rates, age structure, migration flows and population projections. These indicators are essential, but they do not tell the whole story. Behind them are life stories, relationships, expectations and the conditions in which people plan their future.
The partnership between the Institute for Demographic Future and Ona-On is based on the shared understanding that high-quality interpersonal relationships, family stability, intergenerational connectedness and social cohesion are among the key foundations of Slovenia’s long-term demographic resilience.
The cooperation represents an important step towards bringing together research knowledge, public dialogue and practical initiatives that can contribute to a more connected, inclusive and sustainable future for the country.
